The Beginning of the end of Doctors?

In a groundbreaking development, Forward, a leading company in artificial intelligence, is set to reshape the medical landscape with the introduction of “the world’s first AI doctor’s office.” Scheduled for launch in 2024, CarePods, self-service health units, will be strategically placed in New York and other major U.S. cities, offering an array of health screenings for just $99 per month.

CarePods, described as high-tech health stops, will be conveniently located in malls, gyms, and offices. Patients can undergo screenings for conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, depression, and anxiety within the futuristic self-service cube.

The diagnostic data obtained from these screenings will be seamlessly integrated into Forward’s innovative program, Health Apps. CEO and founder Adrian Aoun explained that the monthly membership provides access to various health apps tailored for individual needs.

A standout feature is the body scan app, requiring users to stand still as the CarePod rotates them in a circle. This process captures multiple readings, presenting the results on the screen accompanied by detailed explanations. For heart health, users are handed a sensor to hold over their hearts, providing real-time results.

Moreover, CarePods offer a unique technology allowing users to draw their own blood. Aoun, a former AI expert at Google, showcased the process as seemingly painless, comparing it to a “leech or hickey” rather than traditional finger pricks. In addition,  the two- to four-minute process involves a tiny vacuum chamber for a “capillary blood draw,” eliminating the need for needles or knives.

By now, The company has not revealed the manufacturer or FDA approval status of the blood-draw technology. However, Aoun underscores the scalability of CarePods as a viable solution for addressing the challenge of ensuring widespread access to healthcare.

Aoun highlighted the limitations of scaling traditional healthcare services globally, stating, “You’re never going to scale doctors and nurses to the whole planet.” Proposing an alternative approach, he suggests rebuilding healthcare as a product. The goal is to transition healthcare services into hardware and software that are accessible to a broader population.

Looking ahead, Forward envisions CarePods evolving to screen for advanced cancers, prenatal care, and conducting polygenic analysis to assess an individual’s predisposition to certain illnesses. The initial deployment of three CarePods is slated for Sacramento, California, Chandler, Arizona, and Chicago’s Willis Tower. Next plans for expansion into the San Francisco Bay Area, New York City, and Philadelphia.

Moreover, Aoun emphasized the company’s commitment to affordable healthcare advancements, stating, “We’re just going to keep going.” He expressed the goal of delivering these innovations for pennies on the dollar for the entire planet. The CarePods initiative represents a significant leap in revolutionizing healthcare delivery. It achieves this through the integration of artificial intelligence and innovative self-service solutions.
